As you might imagine, corporate censorship, via restricted advertisement and shadow-banning, disproportionately impacts women and minorities. (CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW) Unfortunately, while policy change is happening, Securing Sexuality has been told that our existence "violates community standards" and has been permanently banned from advertising our rigorously academic community learning event for mental health professionals. This is NOT OKAY.
We set up S3curingS3xuality.com as an alternative way for folks to spread the word of our amazing event, without needing to fear censorship or shadow-banning of their own accounts in the process. We hate that this is necessary and we will continue to advocate for policies that protect mental, sexual, and relational health experts from censorship by those who assume that any mention of "the S word" automatically equates to explicit, prurient behavior.
As the great Detroit icon Grace Lee Boggs taught us, "“Our challenge, as we enter the new millennium, is to deepen the commonalities and the bonds between (us), while at the same time continuing to... say "No" to the existing power structure (and) also empower our constituencies to embrace the power within each of us to create the world anew.”
The Securing Sexuality team says NO to corporate power that censors factual, necessary, and needed information about sexual, relational, and digital health. We are committed to building a community of makers, breakers, teachers, and healers who share a vision for a better world, where no one is marginalized because of their identity, their relationship, their line of work, or the way they love. And we believe that the work of building this world begins when all of us come together to talk about how to foster safe connections that allow an inclusive, whole, and empowered community to grow.
